winteression is over.
i'm a bookbinding machine and have a brand new portfolio of work to add to my repertoire.
and even though i was not selected for the society of illustrators, there is no fear that i someday will. and in the meantime i am drawing, thinking, and knitting lots of egg earmuffs.
on a cooking note, eggs + turkey bacon + tomatoes make for GREAT egg in nests!
eat up and love,
nicole

sketches and small egg-ish projects
So it's wintersession, which means I'm bookbinding! I'm in a Book and Paper Arts class, and I'm learning so much about craftsmanship, design, color, and putting it all together. There hasn't been a lot of time to draw or paint eggs, but I've been in the kitchen with my recipe book! I'm hard boiling eggs, and deviling them for everyone to try. There are so many websites and book devoted to deviled eggs - http://www.deviledeggs.com for one - and just by reading the recipes I'm inspired.

I started this little book devoted to my favorite food. I'm in a vintage groove of inspiration, and this book kind of speaks to that. It's an instant book, which is folded and cut from a piece of printer paper in a matter of seconds! It's a great way to promote work, especially on egg toned paper like this one....
I also am trying out my moleskine watercolor sketchbook, because over these wintersessions and downtime, I love filling books with ideas and drawings and thumbnails. Reassessing what I love about my work and myself invigorates my work and keeps me excited.
So for now, here are a few sketches! Here's to more eggs and posts in 2010
