Incredible Eggs - The Beginning

Over the summer, I got a cookbook called "Totally Eggs". It's a bitty little book, filled with egg recipes that I've really enjoyed creating. Some recipes I knew, and the factoids throughout the book were quite exciting, but honestly, the layout just wasn't cutting it.

When it came time to pick a topic for my Independent Study, I decided to look at the subjects I enjoy the most. All in all, they are quite 'elemental' - I love still lives, houses, and people. I love painting florals and foods and I love creating characters. My paintings have a lot of narrative quality, but I wanted to create another level of character. And so, I chose eggs.

At the time I was picking my subject I was watching a lot of old school animations, some superheroic, and I remembered a phrase I had come up with this summer -
Super Powerful Protein Power.

All these elements created the Superhero eggs, fighting for nutrition justice. I did more research, immersed myself in 1950's and 60's illustrations (look for an inspiration post to follow), and thus created the egg characters.

I'll post more about the personality of the egg characters, but for now, enjoy these line and watercolor sketches!
